A woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle a suspected psychoactive substance into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State, hidden inside a sachet of Milo.
The suspect was intercepted during routine screening at the facility’s entrance on Friday, August 28, 2026, while attempting to visit an inmate on death row.
The Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service disclosed this in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka, noting that the incident occurred around 1:33pm.
Officers conducting the mandatory search reportedly found substances suspected to be “colos,” a street name for a psychoactive drug, concealed within the beverage sachet.
The Correctional Service said the interception reflects the vigilance of its personnel and its commitment to keeping prohibited items out of custodial facilities. The woman has since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Controller of Corrections, Ogun State Command, Kamoru Adesina, commended the officers involved, calling their action a display of alertness and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Service’s zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking and other criminal activities within correctional facilities, stressing that such centres exist to reform and rehabilitate inmates — not to serve as channels for circulating illicit substances.
The command warned members of the public against attempting to compromise custodial security by bringing in prohibited items, stating that anyone caught would face the full weight of the law.
