Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has declared himself bigger than all his colleagues in the industry, daring anyone who believes they match his status to say so publicly.
His comments come amid earlier claims by actor Yemi Solade that he began his acting career before Edochie, despite being younger than him.
Speaking on comedian Isbae U’s online show, Curiosity Made Me Ask, Edochie was asked to name his favourite actor. He said he couldn’t single anyone out, insisting he considers himself bigger than all of them.
He also addressed those who claim to be older than him in the industry, saying he had never bothered responding to such assertions.
“People have been writing that they are older than me in the industry, but I don’t respond,” he said. “Whoever said they are of the same level with me should come out and say it.”
On being referred to as a legend, Edochie admitted he wasn’t entirely sure what the term meant to people but said he was grateful for the recognition. “I don’t know the definition of people’s legend, but I’m glad to be celebrated,” he said.
Edochie further revealed he had built a career outside acting before joining the industry, disclosing that he retired as a Director of Programmes before becoming a full-time actor.
