Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s former vice-presidential candidate, says none of the politicians lining up against President Bola Tinubu — Peter Obi included — has what it takes to turn Nigeria around.
Baba-Ahmed made the comments on the MIC ON Podcast, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye.
He argued that the opposition figures positioning themselves as alternatives to Tinubu lack the capacity to genuinely transform the country.
“I will simply advise uncle (Tinubu) to please prepare to hand over and move away, but not to the people contesting against him,” he said. “Because none of them will improve Nigeria. All those people contesting against him too were all in bed together at some point or another, including Peter Obi. At some point, he was in PDP.”
Baba-Ahmed and Obi ran together as the Labour Party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2023 election, finishing third behind Tinubu of the APC and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.
The remarks come as Baba-Ahmed also revealed he had advised Obi against joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying he’d raised concerns about Obi’s move away from their previous political arrangement and warned that the ADC wasn’t the right platform for his ambitions.
