African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that the policies of President Bola Tinubu contributed to the death of his mother.
Amaechi made the claim on Friday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed how the current administration’s policies have affected Nigerians.
The former Minister of Transportation said his mother was in good health before Tinubu became President, but that the economic hardship that followed made it difficult for the family to afford the drugs she needed.
He added that the removal of the fuel subsidy, which was meant to improve living conditions, has instead deepened hardship across the country.
“The policies Tinubu introduced are killing people. I lost my mother because of the policies. We have lost people. President Tinubu’s policies killed my mother,” Amaechi said.
He continued: “Before Tinubu became President, my mother was healthy. Suddenly, when Tinubu came, it became difficult to buy drugs for my mother. I did the best I could in taking care of my mother.”
Onanuga reacts to Amaechi–Atiku ticket
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has said Amaechi knows the ADC’s mission to defeat Tinubu in the 2027 election will fail.
Reacting on his 𝕏 handle to a video of an earlier interview, Onanuga said Amaechi knows his joint ticket with Atiku Abubakar is a joke.
In the interview on Trust TV, before he emerged as Atiku’s running mate, Amaechi had described the ADC presidential candidate as unelectable. He noted that although Atiku has won party primaries since 1992, he has consistently lost general elections.
Amaechi argued that electability in a general election matters more than winning a party ticket, adding that he hoped Atiku would fail a primary for the first time.
