President Bola Tinubu has announced that the Nigerian Army has established new military formations in Osun, Kebbi, Oyo and Zamfara states as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve the protection of vulnerable communities.
Tinubu disclosed this in a statement shared on Sunday through his verified X account, saying the new formations would position troops closer to areas facing security threats and enable them to respond more quickly when communities come under attack.
According to the President, the Nigerian Army recently operationalised the new formations across the four states.
He said the move was aimed at improving the military’s ability to respond swiftly and decisively to threats against residents and communities.
Tinubu also disclosed that the Federal Government was accelerating the construction of new military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi states.
He noted that the barracks project in Osun State had already been completed.
The President linked the ongoing military infrastructure projects to his administration’s commitment to improving the working conditions and operational capacity of members of the Armed Forces.
He also highlighted the importance of the recent salary increase for military personnel, saying feedback from servicemen and women showed that the pay rise was making a positive difference in the lives of personnel and their families.
Tinubu stressed that the government must continue to provide soldiers with the resources and support required for them to effectively carry out their duties.
He further acknowledged the sacrifices made by military families, noting that every deployment affects not only the personnel serving but also the families waiting for them at home.
The President said his responsibility as Commander-in-Chief included ensuring that members of the Armed Forces had the necessary resources, welfare support and infrastructure to protect the country.
He assured Nigerians that his administration would continue to strengthen the military and improve its capacity to respond to security threats across the country.
The establishment of the new formations comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and security agencies to improve the country’s response to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges affecting communities in different parts of Nigeria.
