Political tension is mounting in Ogun State following allegations that Governor Dapo Abiodun is linked to a ₦250,000-per-signature campaign targeting the reported senatorial ambition of former governor Ibikunle Amosun. The claims surfaced just as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prepares for an official visit to the state.
According to sources within the ruling party in Ogun Central, some leaders and executives are being approached to endorse documents aimed at disqualifying Amosun from contesting for a Senate seat. The exercise is alleged to involve financial inducements, though not all party stakeholders are said to be in support of the move.
Several insiders suggest the development reflects ongoing political friction between Abiodun and Amosun, with concerns that a potential Senate comeback by the former governor could reshape the balance of influence in the state. Some party members have reportedly expressed reservations, warning that such tactics could undermine unity within the party.
There are also claims that loyalists have been mobilised to support the effort, although critics question whether the backing reflects genuine grassroots support or coordinated political staging.
As preparations intensify for President Tinubu’s visit, analysts say the controversy may further expose divisions within the state’s political structure. With attention gradually shifting toward the 2027 elections, the situation highlights the growing struggle for control and influence among key political actors in Ogun State.
