The Landlords and Tenants Association of Nigeria, Oke Oja, Amukoko, Olodon, Awolowo, Cometary and its environs came out massively yesterday, Thursday 17th October 2019 to protest against the electricity light black out in the area for over three months.
During the protest that kicked off from the Magistrate Court, Orege , Apapa where the Landlord had sued Eko Electricity Distribution Plc’s Management (EKEDP) Apapa to court over in ability to provide electricity and pre-paid matters to the members of the community, bringing unaffordable electricity bills, arresting and harassing tenants with Police, Navy officers against whoever complains about the crazy bills.
Chairman of the Landlords and Tenants Association of Oke Oja Apapa, Godwin Monday revealed the reason they sued EKEDP is due to the fact that they have failed to provide pre-paid meter for the tenants and harassing member of the community that complained about the high electricity bills.
“This development is unacceptable. Eko Electricity Distribution Plc’s Management brings crazy bills without explaining the yardstick they use to measure the bills. Our members were arrested by Police while others were taken to Kirikiri. Mrs. Oluwakemi Akeem, Abibu Ismaeel, Azeezat Muhammed were brutalized when they complained about their services and high bills. We are very disappointed in Eko Electricity Distribution Plc’s Management (EKEDP).
We have been very quiet about this issue for a while. The cheating is too much and unbearable again. We pay our money often before it expires. Yet we don’t get good services in return. Our light has been disconnected since three months ago, yet they are still bringing bills. What we are advocating for is pre-paid meters. There have been lots of extortion. And this people have lots of agents who would come to our people to collect illegal money. We want this to stop hence forth, Monday said.
Meanwhile, after the court hearing at Orege Magistrate Court, Apapa, the case has been adjourned till 22ND Tuesday October 2019.
