Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Nigeria’s Iyaloja-General, has issued a stark warning to the All Progressives Congress leadership in Lagos, threatening to mobilise protests if disputed results from the party’s recent House of Representatives and state assembly primaries are not reviewed.
Speaking Wednesday at her Alausa, Ikeja office during a weekly gathering of market leaders and stakeholders, Tinubu-Ojo singled out three constituencies where she insists the wrong candidates were declared winners — Mushin Federal Constituency 2, Agege Constituency 2, and Ojokoro — accusing party officials of tilting outcomes in favour of the Justice Forum bloc.
“We are ready to protest,” she declared, naming Seye Oladejo, Mutiu Olaide Oladeebo, and Olotu Ojo as the candidates she believes legitimately won their contests. “Their mandate should not be given to somebody else.”
The Lagos APC published its full primaries list on Monday. Signed by state chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, it confirmed 24 House of Representatives candidates and 40 state assembly candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu-Ojo’s grievance runs deeper than individual results. She accused the party of fracturing along factional lines — Justice Forum versus Mandate Group — and argued the rivalry was intensifying as politicians position themselves around governorship frontrunner Obafemi Hamzat, who is aligned with the Justice Forum.
“Everyone is now joining the Justice Forum because they believe that is where the incoming governor belongs,” she said, adding that a future governor must govern for all Lagosians, not only his political allies.
She reserved particular criticism for Mandate Group members she said were crossing over to the Justice Forum purely for advantage, calling it a signal that hard work and loyalty no longer count in Lagos politics. “It is saddening. It is a way of telling us that hard work does not pay in politics. Something must be done about it.”
Her solution: dissolve both forums entirely. “Let APC cancel Justice and Mandate Forums. We are one family. We are for APC.”
Despite her frustration, Tinubu-Ojo stopped short of withdrawing support for the party. She reaffirmed that Lagos market women remain firmly behind Hamzat’s governorship bid — but on condition that traders receive genuine political inclusion and appointments in return, warning that the party cannot continue to rely on their mobilisation while keeping them on the margins of governance.
