A deadly pre-dawn raid on a Police Mobile Force camp in Kwara State has left three officers dead and two others wounded, in the latest sign of deepening insecurity across the region.
The attack struck the PMF base in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area, shortly after midnight on Saturday. Eyewitnesses described a large, coordinated group of gunmen overwhelming officers on duty before opening fire, sending terrified residents scrambling from their homes as gunshots rang through the farming settlement.
“It was a terrible situation bandits came in large numbers and invaded the village. People were killed and others wounded,” said Suleiman Issa, a community resident who witnessed the chaos firsthand.
Kwara State Police Command spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the assault, saying a fuller account would follow. “I regret to confirm that an attack on the PMF Camp occurred in the early hours of today. More accurate and detailed information will be provided shortly,” she said.
Saturday’s bloodshed is the latest in a troubling string of attacks battering Kaiama LGA. On April 20, suspected militants overran a joint security outpost in Kemanji community, killing three soldiers and two vigilantes while making off with an army gun truck and other military equipment. Ten days earlier, five local forest guards were slaughtered in Nuku community, with attackers torching vehicles and operational facilities before fleeing.
The wave of violence stretches back to February 2026, when coordinated assaults on Woro and Nuku communities left more than 200 people dead and approximately 176 others — among them women and children — abducted, triggering widespread alarm over the state’s collapsing security landscape.
Authorities have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the attacks.
