Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has officially ended discussions with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over a possible defection to the ruling party.
The Bauchi State chapter chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Pharm. Sama’ila Adamu Burga, confirmed the development during a press briefing in Bauchi on Saturday.
According to him, the governor entered into talks following an invitation from the APC, which reportedly sought to bring him and other key political figures in the state—including lawmakers, state assembly members, and local government chairmen—into its fold ahead of the next general elections.
Burga explained that both sides initially approached the discussions in a spirit of cooperation and political openness, with expectations of possible alignment.
However, he stated that after “careful and extensive considerations,” the proposals presented during the negotiation were not accepted by the APC leadership, leading to a breakdown in talks.
He added that the inability to reach an agreement ultimately brought the discussions to an abrupt end.
With the negotiations now collapsed, attention has shifted to Governor Mohammed’s next political steps, including possible realignments or renewed focus on his current party structure.
It will be recalled that about three weeks earlier, the APC national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yiltwada, alongside Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, visited Governor Mohammed in Bauchi in an effort to persuade him to join the ruling party, an engagement that has now failed to produce a deal.
