Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has announced a prayer and remembrance session to mark one year since Buhari’s death.
In a statement on his official X page on Tuesday, Ahmad said the event will hold on Monday, July 13, to celebrate Buhari’s life, legacy and years of service to Nigeria.
He said the gathering would bring together family, friends, associates and Nigerians for solemn remembrance of the former president, one year after his passing.
Ahmad praised the late leader as someone who served Nigeria with commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism, adding that his contributions to the nation’s development and political history remain etched in Nigeria’s story.
He said prayers would be offered for Allah to forgive Buhari’s shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and continue to console his family, loved ones and the nation, before closing with a prayer for his eternal rest.
Buhari died on July 13, 2025, at age 82 in a London clinic following a prolonged illness. His body was flown to Nigeria and buried in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.
He ruled Nigeria from May 29, 2015 to May 29, 2023, becoming the first opposition candidate to defeat a sitting president in 2015 before winning re-election in 2019 and rounding off his second term in 2023.
The remembrance event is expected to draw family members, former aides, political associates and supporters to honour his legacy.
