The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the delivery of a parcel containing live ammunition to the residence of Olusegun Alebiosu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Nigeria.
Lagos Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai disclosed this at a press briefing on Tuesday, revealing that Alebiosu first reported the incident to the police on May 7, 2026, after his security guard received a suspicious package at his Lagos home.
Upon inspection, the parcel was found to contain two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition — a discovery the commissioner described as arousing “a lot of suspicion.”
“Presently, I can confirm to you that the matter is still under investigation. It is a serious case. The investigation needs to be more thorough,” Fatai said.
He added that no arrest had been made in connection with the incident, even as the First Bank MD reportedly named individuals he suspected of being responsible.
“Even though the MD has mentioned some people who he suspected of being the brains behind it — that is his suspicion anyway. We are still working on it,” the commissioner said.
Fatai made the disclosure in response to questions from journalists seeking confirmation of earlier reports about the parcel.
The commissioner also used the briefing to highlight recent operational successes by the command, including the arrest of multiple crime suspects and the recovery of 14 firearms, four live cartridges, 51 mobile phones, one motorcycle, 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms, and vandalised electrical cables.
