The City Boy Movement inaugurated its Lagos State chapter on Tuesday, pledging to mobilize youths and grassroots supporters across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, held at Marcellina’s Place in Ikeja GRA, drew APC chieftains, traditional rulers, local government chairmen, and youth leaders.
Lagos State Director Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe, who is also Kosofe Local Government Chairman, said the launch was about more than building another political structure.
“Today is far more than the inauguration of another state chapter. It is about mobilising and empowering Nigerian youths to be more responsible and committed to the development of the country,” Ogunlewe said.
He noted that youths remain largely disengaged from civic and political life despite making up a significant share of Nigeria’s population, and said the movement would work to change that. He thanked the group’s founder, Barrister Oluwaseyi Tinubu, and said the movement’s mandate goes beyond elections to cover national unity, discipline, and youth participation in governance.
“Every youth in Nigeria is welcome into the group. Our strategy is to campaign across the country, reaching every ward, community and polling unit,” he added.
National Director-General Tosin Shoga called the Lagos launch “a serious mission” and said the group would carry President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to the grassroots.
“The City Boy Movement has become a vehicle that carries the Renewed Hope Agenda to every corner of the country. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the grassroots and the government,” Shoga said.
He urged the new Lagos executives to lead with integrity and discipline, and thanked Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their leadership.
Hon. Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, spoke on behalf of all 57 council chairmen and pledged their full backing for Tinubu’s reelection bid.
Representing Lagos APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, State Vice Chairman Hon. Moshood Maiyegun said the movement could strengthen youth participation in governance and called for closer collaboration between the party and youth groups.
South-West Coordinator Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala charged members to serve as worthy ambassadors, citing a regional vote target.
“We in the South-West promised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nothing less than eight million votes, and you are the ambassadors of those votes,” he said.
Other dignitaries at the event included Amir Kashim Shettima Jnr., Co-Patron of the Movement; Moremi Ojudu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement; and Hon. Abdullahi Tanko Yakassai, SSA North-West, who pointed to NELFUND and infrastructure projects as evidence of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s impact.
The launch included a documentary on the movement’s objectives and performances by music stars 9ice and Konga.
The newly inaugurated executives say they will begin ward-to-ward sensitization, skills programs, and community outreach immediately, aiming to recruit more youths into active politics ahead of 2027.
