A large crowd of supporters turned out in Ibadan to greet former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as he arrived for a national summit of opposition parties.
The gathering, scheduled to bring together key opposition figures, is being hosted by Seyi Makinde. Notable attendees expected at the summit include former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, among other prominent political leaders.
Atiku, who is among those seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections, shared a video of his arrival via his X (formerly Twitter) account. The footage captured enthusiastic supporters singing and cheering as he touched down in the Oyo State capital. He simply wrote: “I have just arrived in Ibadan, Oyo State, for the National Summit of all opposition parties.”
Meanwhile, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is attempting to disrupt the event.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Abdullahi claimed that after opposition groups were unable to secure venues in Abuja, there were fresh efforts to frustrate their meeting in Ibadan. He described the situation as part of a broader pattern of interference aimed at undermining opposition activities.
He also accused the ruling party of double standards, arguing that despite public claims of confidence, its actions suggest concern over the opposition’s growing coordination.
Despite these allegations, Abdullahi affirmed that the summit would proceed as planned.
