Nigerian music star, David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has taken to social media to taunt Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, following the declaration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as winner of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The singer and the governor had traded words in the build-up to the August 15 poll, with Okpebholo urging residents not to vote for Adeleke, whom he accused of being more interested in dancing at public events than governance.
Okpebholo had said, “Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, he will dance. Before he even enters the plane, he will dance. Before he gets there, we have closed, so he won’t know what we are saying. He doesn’t even know the reality of today.”
The governor also urged voters in the state to collect money from politicians seeking their votes but withhold their support at the polls, telling them, “If they bring money, chop that money from them but don’t vote for them.”
Davido had responded to the comments with a jab at Okpebholo’s academic credentials, continuing a public exchange between the two that had trailed the election for days.
Following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s confirmation of Adeleke’s victory on Saturday, Davido returned to social media, this time via his Instagram story, to send a fresh message to the Edo governor. Tagging Okpebholo directly, he wrote, “@he_Mondayokpebholo get ready, my brother! Make I sleep first. Nah me and you tomorrow.”
The remark has continued to generate reactions online, with many linking it to the earlier rift between the two men over the Osun poll.
