The camp of Hon. Abayomi Hunye has welcomed a threatened lawsuit by Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West) over allegations concerning the senator’s ancestral origin, saying it is ready to meet him in court.
In a statement issued on Monday, signed by his Media Adviser, Femi Oyewale, Hunye said his attention had been drawn to remarks by Chief Kayode Odunaro, Media Adviser to Senator Adeola, threatening legal action over Hunye’s earlier claims about the senator’s true origin. Hunye said he was more than ready to face Adeola in a court of competent jurisdiction.
He described the threat as a political jamboree and diversionary media tactic, alleging that the political space in Ogun West has long been subjected to intimidation and suppression of truth through propaganda. He claimed the 24-hour ultimatum issued by Adeola’s camp was an attempt to bully dissenting voices and dodge public accountability over his eligibility to govern Ogun State.
Hunye argued that a candidate’s origin and eligibility is a constitutional matter touching on the integrity of democratic institutions, not a private affair. He maintained that truth remains an absolute defence against libel and challenged Adeola to stop grandstanding on national television and head to court instead.
He assured the public he would not be cowed by intimidation or legal threats, promising to present verifiable facts and documentary evidence on Adeola’s alleged Ekiti ancestry in court. He urged the people of Ogun State, particularly Ogun West, to remain calm, stressing that the era of hoodwinking the electorate with political gimmicks is over.
