Senator Ita-Giwa, as a mother figure, took it upon herself by taking up the responsibility of 14 Bakassi Children. She is solely responsible for financing their education till University level. Like a proud mother, whose joy knows no bound, seing what she has toiled and laboured for all the years metamorphose to huge success, mama bakassi never hid her joy as 4 of her bakassi children, Paul Bassey Okon, graduated from Univeristy of Mines and technology !Tarkwa, Ghana, Studied Petroleum Engineering, Eyo Daniel Edet Univeristy of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Ghana studied Mechanical Engineering, Giwa Roberts, Babcock Univeristy Ilishan-Remo studied Computer Scienc and Bassey Precious, Babcock University Ilishan-Remo, studied Information Resource Management graduated from the university with good grades.
On Thursday the 8th of August, Senator Hosted a Soiree for the 4 graduates at her highbrow restaurant, “Echos of Calabar” Victoria Island, Lagos. She appreciate her children and also encourage the rest to put in their best towards their education to make her proud. The soiree also marked the the birthday of 2 of her little kids who clocked 5 years. The delectable princess, danced and merried with them.
In her words, Senator pleaded with Nigeria Government to look into their matter by providing a settlement for the bakassi people, where they can call home. “I have had countless meeting with President Buhari on Bakassi issues, we have the oldest IDP camp in Nigeria. We need a place to call home. We need a settlement. Life in the IDP camp is not good enough to write home about. Thanks to Governor Ben Ayade for his immense support but we need intervention from the federal government. This kids needs where they can call their home. There are lots of them but I wish I can send everyone to school but the little I can do I am doing. I used to pay teachers to go and teach the children there. If we invest in their welfare and education they will forever be greatful”.
