The Federal Ministry of Works has prohibited commercial motorcycles and tricycles from operating on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, with the restriction taking effect this week.
The ban was announced Sunday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare, who said the measures were necessary to protect newly constructed sections of the superhighway from misuse and long-term deterioration.
Dare added that indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles would no longer be tolerated on the highway or any of the bridges across Lagos State.
The ministry also banned the dumping of refuse along highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable.
Dare warned that offenders would face strict enforcement, noting that signage has already been installed along the route and task force officials would be deployed to strategic points to ensure compliance.
He described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class infrastructure that must be properly maintained, urging all road users to respect the directives in the interest of public safety and the facility’s long-term value.
