A fire broke out on Friday morning at the Bono Tank Farm within the Best Energy Tank Farm complex in Ibafon, Apapa, sparking panic among residents and workers who fled the area as emergency responders rushed to the scene.
The blaze reportedly started shortly after a loud explosion-like sound was heard across the area. Fire service teams from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) were deployed to help contain the spread of the fire.
Management representatives of Bono Tank Farm and Best Energy Tank Farm could not be reached for comment, as calls and text messages went unanswered.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident and said no casualties had been recorded as of the time of filing. She noted that firefighters and other responders were fully deployed at the scene to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby tank farms and facilities.
