Ambassador of France to Nigeria, Mr Denys Gauer, has disclosed that President Emmanuel Macron will visit Nigeria this July 2018. After his working visit last week to attend the Global Partnership for Education in Dakar Senegal, the youthful France President is billed to visit Nigeria and he is expected to address the joint session of the National Assembly.
Gauer made this revelation when he paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, at the National Assembly, saying President Macron is interested in the future and development of Nigeria and the rest of Africa. It would be recalled that President Macron has worked in the French embassy in Abuja early in his career for six months, some years ago, stating this will be President Macron’s official visit to Nigeria after he was sworn in as France President last year.
Gauer divulged that the relationship between the two countries in the last few years is centered on security, Macron hoped to use the visit to further deepen and strengthen the relationship with Nigeria especially in areas such as youths, culture and creativity.
Hon. Dogara said members of House of Representatives and indeed the National Assembly would give a listening ear to the French president whom he described as “a man of our generation. “He has brought a lot of youthful zest, dynamism, charisma and appeal to French politics and we will want to yield the floor to him,”
The Speaker also gave kudos to the French Government for assisting Nigeria in the fight against terrorist group Boko Haram and pledged to give expeditious passage to all bilateral agreements that will be signed between Nigeria and France during Macron’s working visit.
