The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, has again come under attack by armed men, the institution confirmed on Thursday.
In a statement, NIPSS Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Osime Samuel, said the gunmen struck on Wednesday night but were repelled by security operatives guarding the facility.
He said the attackers exchanged heavy gunfire with security personnel before retreating in the face of a fast, coordinated response. One of the assailants was killed in the encounter, while several others fled with injuries, according to the statement.
Samuel added that the gunmen failed to breach the Institute’s security perimeter, and that all participants of the ongoing Senior Executive Course, along with staff, residents, and facilities, remained unharmed.
He noted that security agencies have stepped up efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, while surveillance and other protective measures have been strengthened in and around the Institute.
NIPSS reassured course participants, staff, their families, and the public that the safety of lives and property remains its top priority. The Institute also praised the swift and professional response of the security agencies and appealed to the public to disregard misinformation likely to cause unnecessary panic.
This latest attack comes just weeks after gunmen struck the Institute in an earlier incident that claimed the lives of three security operatives.
