For those who know Mariam Afolabi, daughter of Maritime Guru and Vice Chairman of SIFAX groups, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, would attest to to fact that, she is a die-hard fashion enthusiast with no regret.
To show how much she admirera fashion and arts, she launch her Multi-Million naira Fashion complex named; The Style Café comprises a fashion label, Mademoiselle Aglaia, a unisex salon, a beauty parlour, a spa and an eatery where local and intercontinental foods are served at the highbrow Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. After the commissioning of the complex, she enjoyed massive patronage as her spot was a mecca of sort for lovers of high quality materials, perfumes and other fashion accessories.
Mariam’s beauty can make a full blooded man drool, anytime she saunters into an event, wearing her favourite Hanako cologne; a fusion of French and Arab scent, she commands rapt attention. Her fashion statements, composure, gait and charming smile also attract loud attention. Apart from her physical qualities, the highly cerebral lady is a graduate of Law from the University of Warwick, Coventry, England and also obtained a Post Graduate degree (LLM with distinction) in International Maritime Law from the IMO International Maritime Law Institute, Malta.
For years now, her admirers have wondered why she has recoiled into her cocoon, staying off Shindigs and other social functions. Paparazzi camera’s used to catching a glimpse of her fashion statements on the red carpet have completely retired. Sources close to her avered that; she has not completely abandoned her passion for fashion. But ever since she was appointed in 2018 as the Executive Director of Compliance SIFAX Groups, her fashion activities and appearance at soiree reduced drastically. “Mariam no longer have much time for fashion. The job description that comes with her office is quite a tasking one. It requires time and attention. She wants to build a portfolio for herself in the maritime sector. Fashion never fades. It can come anytime. She is still young, so she is only concentrating on building her fathers shipping conglomerate. She might her reduced some of her activities but trust me, she is still a fashion enthusiast. Its inborn so you dont expect it to fade away like that. With time, she will bounce back.”
