The recent success recorded by Ibrahim Adejuwon Odumboni, it’s a clear indication that vision plays a pivotal role in matters of governance. Many thanks to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who appointed him as the head honcho of the Lagos Waste Management Authority LAWMA, his dream for a cleaner Lagos is currently turning into reality. Despite being a trained banker with over 18 years of work experience in Private & Retail Banking, Analytical Skills, Wealth & Asset Management, Strategic Planning & Change Management, Commercial Lending, Banking & Credit Analysis, the University College and International Business Economics Masters from Bristol Business School UK is currently rewriting the narrative as Lagos is gradually taking shape away from the filth we saw a few years ago.
Under his watch, the agency has recorded efficiency in waste management evacuation and recycling with the distribution of waste bins at a strategic location by also partnering with the private sector on how to ensure their environment is kept clean and garbage is kept safe to avoid an outbreak of disease. Recently Odumboni and his team launched a project tagged ‘Adopt-A-Bin’. The initiative is a follow-up to LAWMA’s strategic recycling campaign for the resident to containerize their waste in bins of several colour to ensure unnecessary exposure to waste and also avoid outbreaks of disease or toxins to the environment.
The Statistics graduate from the University of Ibadan also introduces cutting-edge innovation to waste management that will help to avert the disaster of ocean surges often caused by improper disposal of non-bio-degradable, such as plastics and other environmental challenges. “He has also introduced Lagos Recycle Program for the promotion of waste sorting from source & introduction of PAKAM application for waste intelligence. He has also facilitated the inclusion of waste management into the primary school curriculum in Lagos State in collaboration with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Re-organised LAWMA for vision 2030 and infrastructural investment among others.” A source added.
Odumboni has also taken his campaign to several local governments across Lagos in ensuring a strategic partnership between stakeholders to ensure that Waste is properly displaced and also ensure a cleaner environment in the best interest of Lagosians to avoid flood during this rainy season due to blocked drainages as a result of improper waste disposal. In also enforcing illegal dumping of refuse across the state, he recently strikes a partnership between LAWMA and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency LNSA. This partnership will help monitor and also enforce erring Lagosians who dispose waste indiscriminately at prohibited places across the state.
