The Imo State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim from a forest hideout bordering the Nekede, Ihiagwa and Agbala communities in Owerri West Local Government Area.
Police spokesman DSP Henry Okoye confirmed the rescue in a statement on Sunday, saying Commissioner of Police Audu Bosso personally led the operation on Saturday alongside local vigilance operatives.
The operation followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, channelled through the Deputy Inspector-General supervising the South East Zone, as part of a broader push to dismantle criminal hideouts and deny kidnappers safe haven across the state.
Operatives rescued the victim, identified as Chinonaobi Uchegbulam of Ubaha Orodo, from the forest with injuries. He was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where he is receiving treatment and responding positively.
Okoye said Bosso commended the officers involved for their courage and professionalism, reaffirming the command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations.
“The command remains committed to making Imo unsafe for kidnappers and other violent criminal groups,” the spokesman said.
Residents were urged to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or the command’s emergency line: 0803 477 3600.
