Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will now pay a one-time fee of ₦4,000 to verify their WAEC O’Level results, following a joint announcement by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The two examination bodies disclosed the new arrangement in a joint statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Under the new system, candidates whose admission is processed through JAMB will carry out their WAEC result verification directly on the JAMB platform. Once verification is completed, the confirmed results will be forwarded electronically to the tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
Importantly, the ₦4,000 fee covers verification only once — candidates will not be required to pay separately for each institution they apply to.
JAMB and WAEC further directed all tertiary institutions to rely solely on the verified results transmitted through JAMB when screening candidates, processing admissions, and carrying out other related administrative functions.
The bodies noted that institutions are expected to use the JAMB-verified results for these purposes, and that candidates should not be asked to pay any additional fee for a second verification.
The new verification process was recently rolled out by JAMB to allow candidates to complete their result checks remotely — from home or any location with internet access — rather than visiting verification centres in person.
