Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has laid out the requirements for joining the United States Army, cautioning Nigerians and other West Africans against falling for online enlistment scams.
Momodu, who joined the US Army earlier this year, said intending applicants must first be legal residents of the US and hold a Green Card before they can begin the enlistment process.
He made this known while addressing the flood of messages he has received from people asking him to help them join the military.
“If you are in Nigeria, or you live anywhere in West Africa, and you are part of those sending me DMs that help me join the US Army. Let me give you the gist,” he said.
Momodu explained that there are two non-negotiable requirements for anyone hoping to enlist in the US Army or any other branch of the US military.
“1. You have to be resident in U.S. 2. You have to have a Green Card then you can qualify to sit for the ASVAB exam,” he said.
He further cautioned that there is no legitimate route into the US military for people residing outside the country, urging Nigerians to be wary of scammers exploiting the interest generated by his story.
“Please do not fall for any scam anywhere, there is no link anywhere to click on to join the US Army when you are outside the U.S,” he added.
Momodu had announced his enlistment in June, describing it as the realisation of a lifelong dream and a tribute to his late father, who served in the Nigeria Police Force. He shared the news on Instagram, where he opened up about the physical and emotional toll of military training, including months of intense drills and isolation.
His story has since drawn widespread attention from Nigerians and other West Africans curious about the enlistment process into the US armed forces.
