The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of worsening the living conditions of Nigerians through unrealistic policies and abandoned projects.
Makinde argued that several government initiatives had failed to deliver the expected benefits to citizens, particularly in reducing transportation costs and easing the economic hardship facing millions of Nigerians.
He made the remarks during the MakindeDaura 2027 Presidency South-South Town Hall meeting held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The APM presidential candidate faulted the government for embarking on large-scale projects and announcing major initiatives without ensuring their successful implementation or delivering meaningful improvements to the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
According to him, the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and the naira-for-crude policy have failed to produce the desired results for the country.
Makinde questioned whether these initiatives had translated into lower transportation costs for Nigerians, insisting that government policies should be judged by their impact on the people’s daily lives.
He also criticised the government’s approach to petroleum pricing, alleging that its plans to adjust fuel prices could further affect the welfare and future of Nigerians.
“They want to modulate the price of petroleum products, they want to modulate the lives of millions of Nigerians, they want to modulate the destiny of the most populous black nation on the face of the earth,” he said.
Makinde called on the Federal Government to make its petroleum pricing template available to the public, arguing that greater transparency would enable Nigerians to examine the figures and suggest practical ways to improve the system.
He maintained that the government should provide clear details of its pricing calculations rather than continue introducing policies without adequately explaining how they would benefit the population.
“Provide for Nigerians your pricing template, we will see Nigerians that can tell us how to make it work for millions of Nigerians,” the presidential candidate stated.
He further urged the government to stop complicating the country’s economic situation with policies and projects that do not produce tangible results.
According to Makinde, making the pricing template public would allow experts and other Nigerians to identify the relevant figures, examine the challenges and recommend workable solutions that could ease the burden on citizens.
The APM candidate’s comments come amid continuing public concerns over the cost of living, particularly the prices of petrol, transportation and other essential goods and services.
Makinde maintained that government policies should focus on improving the welfare of Nigerians rather than introducing ambitious programmes without clear and measurable benefits.
