The historic coastal town of Makun Omi in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area has launched a major initiative aimed at preserving its rich cultural legacy through a comprehensive historical documentation project.
The development was announced by the Osobia of Makun Omi, Oba Kazeem Adeshina Salami, who confirmed the inauguration of a seven-member committee responsible for compiling an in-depth record of the community’s origins, traditions, and cultural identity.
In a statement released on Sunday by the palace spokesperson, Otunba Gbenga Onayiga, the project is in line with the Makun Omi Strategic Development Plan and reflects a deliberate effort to formally document and safeguard the town’s heritage.
Oba Salami noted that the committee will draw from both local sources and external archives to ensure the final documentation is accurate, detailed, and credible.
He stated that the initiative would serve as a vital tool for preserving the community’s history and values, enabling future generations to remain connected to their roots.
The palace has also assured its full backing for the project, including providing the necessary support and resources to ensure its success within the proposed eight-month timeline.
The committee is chaired by Bola Ogunpolu, with members including Abiodun Odumade, Wale Okulenu, Dupe Okesanjo, Victor Adefarasin, and Victor Olabanwo.
This initiative represents a significant cultural milestone for Makun Omi, underscoring a growing commitment among indigenous communities to protect and preserve their historical identity for generations to come.
