Comr. Prince Oluwamayowa G. Solarin, popularly known as Maysol of Lagos, is set to host the second edition of the Maysol of Lagos & Friends Agiliti 4-Aside Inter-Street Football Competition, aimed at promoting grassroots sports development, youth empowerment and community unity.
Organised by Maysol of Lagos Initiative, the tournament will begin on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Aina Memorial Primary School Field in Agiliti Community, Lagos, and conclude with the final on Sunday, November 29, 2026.
The competition will feature eight teams battling for cash prizes, community recognition and an opportunity to showcase their football talents.
OneDosh is the headline sponsor of the tournament, while Licor Amargo is the associate sponsor.
Promoting Youth Development Through Football
According to the organisers, the competition goes beyond football, as it is designed to bring residents together, encourage positive youth engagement and strengthen relationships among people in Agiliti and neighbouring communities.
Solarin said the initiative reflects his commitment to grassroots development and his belief that young people should have opportunities to showcase their abilities, build meaningful relationships and learn important values such as teamwork, discipline and mutual respect.
He noted that football remains an effective tool for bringing people together, regardless of their backgrounds or social differences.
“Football has a unique way of bringing people together, regardless of their background, status or differences. Through this competition, we want to create an atmosphere of unity, healthy rivalry, friendship and positive engagement for our young people.
“For me, this is about the love I have for my community and my desire to contribute, in my own way, to its growth and development,” Solarin said.
Grassroots Leadership Through Community Service
The initiative also highlights the role of community participation and service in promoting development at the grassroots level.
Solarin believes that leadership should extend beyond political activities and public office, stressing the importance of identifying community needs and supporting initiatives that directly benefit residents.
Through the football competition, the convener hopes to create an environment where young people feel included, local talents receive encouragement and residents have opportunities to interact through a shared interest.
The tournament is also expected to bring together community leaders, business owners, football enthusiasts, sponsors and other stakeholders in support of youth development and community engagement.
Cash Prizes for Participating Teams
Players aged 16 and above are expected to participate in the competition, which will provide a platform for football enthusiasts to demonstrate their skills in a competitive environment.
The organisers have announced cash prizes for the top three teams.
The winners will receive ₦200,000, while the first runners-up will take home ₦100,000. The second runners-up will receive ₦50,000.
Beyond the financial rewards, the competition is intended to promote teamwork, confidence, discipline and respect among participants.
The organisers also hope that the event will help identify emerging football talents and encourage young people to participate in organised sporting activities.
Sponsors, Residents and Supporters Commended
Solarin has acknowledged the contributions of the sponsors and other supporters working to ensure the success of the second edition.
He particularly recognised OneDosh, the headline sponsor, and Licor Amargo, the associate sponsor, for supporting the community-based sporting initiative.
The organisers also appreciate the contributions of residents, volunteers, participating teams, friends and other stakeholders whose support is helping to bring the competition to life.
They called on more individuals, businesses and organisations to support grassroots initiatives that create opportunities for young people and strengthen community relationships.
Building on the Success of the First Edition
The second edition follows the inaugural competition held in 2025, with the organisers aiming to deliver a bigger and better experience for participating teams, spectators and the wider Agiliti community.
For Solarin, Agiliti remains more than a venue for the competition. He described his involvement in grassroots activities as part of his personal commitment to the community and its development.
He maintained that community development is a shared responsibility, adding that individuals can contribute to collective progress through practical initiatives, partnerships and active participation.
As preparations continue for the November kickoff, residents, football lovers, community stakeholders and supporters are encouraged to participate in the event and support its objectives.
The organisers say the competition represents an opportunity to celebrate grassroots football, encourage emerging talents and strengthen the bonds among residents of Agiliti and surrounding communities.
