ADC chieftain Dino Melaye has criticised the Tinubu administration over the size of Nigeria’s presidential air fleet, describing it as excessive for a country grappling with economic hardship.
In a post on his X handle, Melaye claimed the Nigerian Air Force did not receive a single new aircraft throughout 2025, even as the presidential fleet grew. He said the administration had added five aircraft to the fleet in under four years — a figure he called unprecedented.
Listing the additions, Melaye named a Bombardier Global 7500, a three-year-old Pilatus PC-24, an Airbus A330, and two Gulfstream G500 jets. He alleged that three of the aircraft, bearing Nigerian 5N registrations, were purchased outright by the federal government, while a private firm leased the remaining two to the government under undisclosed terms.
“This is ridiculous, to say the least, for a country as poor as Nigeria,” he wrote.
Separately, Melaye disclosed that opposition parties are holding active talks aimed at forming a coalition to challenge President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election. Speaking on Arise Television, he said Labour Party’s Peter Obi and PRP’s Donald Duke have both signalled willingness to join the alliance.
He said Obi had reaffirmed his involvement in the talks during a recent appearance in Port Harcourt, and that he had personally discussed the matter with Duke. While acknowledging the coalition may not secure the backing of every opposition figure, Melaye expressed confidence that a majority would unite behind a single front.
Melaye also downplayed the APC’s structural advantage heading into 2027, insisting that widespread hardship and insecurity have already turned public sentiment against the ruling party regardless of its political machinery.
He argued that no amount of campaigning by Tinubu or APC governors would reverse what he described as a foregone decision by Nigerians to vote the party out, adding that the president is aware his time in office is numbered.
