A Lagos property owner and cleric, Pastor Sunday Enikuomehin, has given telecommunications company MTN Nigeria Communications PLC 14 days to pay ₦25 million in compensation for alleged structural damage and safety risks caused by a mast beside his property.
In a demand letter dated October 20, 2026, his lawyers, Benson Enikuomehin & Co., accused MTN of gross negligence.
The firm said the mast, built in 2010 next to the pastor’s property at No. 1 & 3, Maja Street, Eyita, Ikorodu, has repeatedly dropped “hard substances” and equipment debris onto the building’s roof.
According to the lawyers, the debris has shattered the roof, which now leaks heavily whenever it rains, leaving occupants in constant fear for their safety.
The letter further claimed that several complaints made through MTN’s on-site security personnel were ignored by the company’s management.
“The negligence of your company in placing this hazardous mast very close to our client’s property has resulted in monumental damages,” said Amenawon Addo Esq., Head of Chambers, who signed the letter.
“Your company has a duty of care to ensure that its mast structures are safely engineered, regularly inspected, and properly maintained.”
The complainant is demanding immediate repairs to the damaged roof, a permanent end to the falling objects, and ₦25 million to cover repair costs and the “pain, anguish, and apprehension” the occupants have suffered over the years.
The law firm warned that if MTN fails to address the matter within 14 days, it will file a lawsuit and escalate the complaint to the relevant federal telecommunications regulators.
