Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has pledged to give every child in the United States a share in his rocket company, SpaceX.
Musk made the announcement on Monday in a post on X. “Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” he wrote. “This will be the first of many.”
He did not say how the plan would work.
Data from the US Census Bureau shows about 73 million Americans are under the age of 18. Forbes puts Musk’s stake in SpaceX at 38 percent.
The pledge follows President Donald Trump’s promise last month to give every American adult $5,000 if the Republican Party keeps control of Congress in the November midterm elections.
SpaceX set a record in June for the largest initial public offering in history, raising $85.7 billion. In September, its Starship megarocket reached orbit for the first time, a milestone for the rocket at the centre of Musk’s Mars ambitions.
