The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 101-year-old woman, Esther Ogunmabo, for allegedly selling cannabis in Ilisan, Ogun State.
Operatives apprehended the centenarian on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with 90 grammes of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, packaged in small quantities for sale.
NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said Ogunmabo confessed to selling the drug within her community. According to him, she turned to the trade after a fire razed her provisions store, leaving her without a source of income.
Babafemi added that the woman named one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, as her supplier, saying the daughter arranged deliveries every four days for her to resell in bits.
“She said one of her daughters, who resides in Lagos, arranges the supply of the substance to her every four days, which she in turn sold in bits,” Babafemi said.
In view of her age, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), ordered that she be granted bail and referred for counselling rather than prosecution. The agency confirmed that the Lagos-based daughter linked to the supply chain has also been arrested.
The arrest forms part of a broader sweep of operations by the NDLEA, which also recorded other seizures and arrests at land and maritime border points as it continues its campaign against drug cultivation, distribution and sale nationwide.
