The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a businessman caught with 6.10kg of liquid cocaine concealed in shirts and towels imported from Brazil.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
According to the statement, the suspect, 41-year-old Abugu Oliver Ikechukwu, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, after arriving from Brazil via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
NDLEA operatives searched his luggage and recovered 14 shirts and towels that had been soaked in liquid cocaine, dried, and neatly ironed, containing a total of 6.10 kilograms of the drug.
In his statement to the agency, the suspect said he has lived in Brazil for over 14 years, where he runs an African restaurant. He claimed he travelled to Nigeria to visit his wife and purchase food items in bulk for his business.
In other operations, a 60-year-old woman, Chidimma Sunday, and a 28-year-old man, Abubakar Usman, both persons living with disabilities, were taken into NDLEA custody in Abia and Rivers states respectively over drug-related offences. Chidimma was arrested with 1.8kg of skunk by a local vigilante group in Umuna Autonomous Community, Isialangwa North LGA, Abia State, and handed over to the NDLEA on June 10. Abubakar was arrested at Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with 400 grams of skunk, 5 grams of methamphetamine, 100 grams of tramadol, 5 grams of swinol, and 18 grams of diazepam during a raid on June 9.
In Delta State, a suspect identified as Onya Jude, 36, was arrested on June 8 with five gas cylinders containing 2.8 kilograms of “Loud,” a potent cannabis strain, at Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South LGA. Separately, two dealers, Jamilu Idris (“Jama”), 40, and Aminu Abdullahi (“Momo”), 33, were arrested at Kasuwan Katako, Gombe State, with three large blocks of skunk weighing 2.738kg.
In Kano State, a woman identified as Ngozi Gaius, 39, was arrested along the Zaria/Kano road on June 12 conveying 6,000 tablets of tramadol (225mg). In Kwara State, two suspects, Nasiru Hamza, 47, and Muhammad Sani, 38, were intercepted along the Bode Saadu road on June 9 with 600 compressed blocks of skunk weighing 304kg, transported in a black Toyota Jeep.
In Taraba State, NDLEA operatives raided the warehouse of a suspected dealer, Ali Adamu, 45, at Maihula village, Bali LGA, on June 13, recovering 63 jumbo bags of cannabis sativa weighing 1,121.5kg. On the same day, a suspect identified as Emmanuel Nnadi, 46, was arrested along the Gwagwalada expressway, FCT Abuja, with a large quantity of illicit substances, including 30,400 tablets of tramadol, 750 tablets of pregabalin, 200 tablets of “molly,” and 592 bottles of codeine-based syrup.
Also on June 13, operatives recovered 1,102kg of “Ghana Loud” cannabis around Alaba International Market, Ojo area of Lagos.
Meanwhile, NDLEA commands across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns in schools, religious centres, workplaces, and communities, including visits to schools in Nasarawa, Enugu, Lagos, Kano, and Anambra states, as well as a community outreach in Rivers State.
The NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers across the participating commands for the arrests and seizures, and urged them to sustain the momentum in both enforcement and public sensitisation efforts.
