Abubakar Sanni-Bello is one of the new breeds of young politicians who clinched the top job as governor of Niger State in 2015, under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), after serving as a commissioner under former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu but later resigned due to his political ambition.
Riding on the popularity of his father, Colonel Sanni Bello (RTD), who was once the military Governor of Kano state, and the Buhari-Tsunami, providence granted him his heart desires, he was voted for massively; defeating his strongest adversary from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Umaru Nasko (Jarma Minna), his fellow kinsman from Kontagora, Niger state.
When he was sworn in as Governor of the North-central state in June 2015, praise singers across the state, praised his to the high heavens. Nigerlites who voted massively for him thought he was going to perform excellently. Basking on his business pedigree and youthful ideas, thus, creating jobs and other basic amenities, by placing Niger as one of the highest Internal Revenue generating state in Nigeria through agriculture and animal production. Alas, the sweet prologue of his sojourn as governor of the power state became sour.
According to a close source from the state, divulged to CITYSPY that; “The Governor is the worst we have had in the past 16 years. When we voted out Babangida Aliyu and his puppet Nasko, we thought Sanni Bello was going to make the state great once again. We have dropped in Agricultural production, the unemployment rate has increased drastically, the crime rate is on the high side. The Governor as well hardly stay in the state. He spends most of his time traveling to the United Kingdom, USA, Germany, and other foreign countries like a drunken sailor. He is not aware that as a Governor; you have to be aware of the day-in-day-out running of the state. The most annoying of his trips was when he traveled to London to watch his favorite team (Chelsea FC), play at the Stamford Bridge. Of what use is that to the development of my dear state?. These attitudes depict he is not ready for governance and upliftment of the state. Lately, he has turned Abuja and Aso-Villa to his second home, abandoning the state he promised and campaigned vehemently to change. Nigerlites are very angry. They are ready to do the needful if he seeks a re-election in 2019. We are tired of a Governor who does not share in our pain. The people are angry you can see how he was stoned by angry youths who voted him in recently.”
AbuLolo, as he is fondly called by his admirers; is currently grasping for breath like a sinking man. He is running helter-skelter in other to save his re-election bid in 2019 form jeopardy. Sources claimed that if he does not retrace his steps before the end of the year, his re-election dreams might be truncated.
