Nigerian cleric Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Prophet Odumeje, has recounted how some of his former friends allegedly attacked him after he abandoned his previous lifestyle and began preaching the gospel on the streets of Onitsha, Anambra State.
The controversial pastor disclosed this during an interview with media personality Nedu, where he spoke about his childhood, his reputation for fighting and the challenges he faced after embracing street evangelism.
Odumeje described himself as a stubborn and dangerous person while growing up, explaining that he was known for engaging in physical confrontations with others.
According to him, his reputation for fighting made some people approach him whenever they had disagreements with others or needed someone to defend them against bullies.
The cleric said people often paid him to fight on their behalf. He explained that he would collect money and arrange a time for the confrontation, which usually took place around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m., after the Women Market in Onitsha had closed.
He added that the fights often attracted crowds, with people gathering to watch the confrontations.
However, Odumeje said his life took a different direction when he began preaching the gospel from street to street in Onitsha with a megaphone.
He explained that his decision to become an evangelist did not go down well with some of his former friends, who allegedly felt threatened by his transformation.
According to the cleric, people mocked his former associates because of the change in his lifestyle, leading to repeated attacks against him.
Odumeje recalled that during one of the incidents, his former friends seized his Bible and megaphone before beating him. He did not disclose the exact date or circumstances surrounding the attack.
Speaking about his experience, the pastor said his commitment to preaching the gospel remained firm despite the hostility he encountered.
He said, “I don’t do comedy. I’m a very dangerous man. I was very dangerous and stubborn while growing up. People paid me to fight.
“I preach the gospel street by street in Onitsha with my megaphone, and many laughed at me. My former friends saw my new lifestyle as a threat because people mocked them over my transformation.
“They repeatedly attacked me, and on one occasion, they seized my megaphone and Bible before beating me. God never fails or deceives His people.”
The cleric’s account highlights the difficult experiences he said he faced while transitioning from a life associated with street fights to public preaching and religious ministry.
