Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has dismissed claims by his Imo State counterpart, Hope Uzodinma, that all Southeast governors have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing the declaration as merely Uzodinma’s personal opinion.
Speaking at a press conference in Umuahia, Otti said Uzodinma had no right to speak for other governors in the region on such a political decision.
He noted that Uzodinma is only entitled to express his personal backing for Tinubu’s second term, and cannot claim to represent the position of other Southeast governors or the people of the zone.
Uzodinma had earlier claimed that all five Southeast governors had resolved to work for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He made the claim while addressing a meeting with the Imo State Elders Council and traditional rulers in Owerri, attributing the resolve to what he called Tinubu’s unmatched commitment to developing the region through major infrastructure and economic projects.
He insisted that the Tinubu administration has delivered visible dividends of democracy to the Southeast, pointing to what he described as clear evidence of federal government intervention across the zone.
But Otti pushed back against the claim, saying it is too early for such political positioning, and that each governor and the people of the region would make their decisions when the time is right.
