Veteran Nigerian actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, widely known for his role in Papa Ajasco and Company Papa Ajasco and Company, has refuted viral claims suggesting he was gifted a car and $25,000 following recent public attention on his personal struggles.
The controversy began after the actor featured in a widely circulated interview in March 2026 with media personality Lucky Udu, where he spoke candidly about the challenges he has faced in the entertainment industry despite decades of work. The interview sparked widespread reactions and renewed public sympathy.
Following the viral conversation, producer Wale Adenuga Productions responded, noting that Ayoyinka had previously received various forms of support during his time on the popular TV series, including access to vehicles such as a Mercedes-Benz.
However, the situation escalated after Lucky Udu publicly reacted, accusing the actor of not adequately appreciating efforts made to support him and draw attention to his condition. Udu also claimed he attempted to arrange further assistance, including a planned meeting with a cleric in Abuja, though the effort reportedly did not materialise.
In a new interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Ayoyinka dismissed reports that he received any expensive gifts or a car. He clarified that while he did receive financial support from well-wishers after the interview went viral, the total donations amounted to nearly ₦6 million, contributed in varying amounts by Nigerians.
According to him, some individuals even visited his home expecting to see a newly delivered vehicle, which he said never existed.
“I am still trekking and jumping buses. I did not receive any car. People came to my house expecting to see a car, but there was nothing like that,” he said.
He further explained that although he once owned an old Mercedes 200 during his active years in the industry, he no longer has the vehicle.
Ayoyinka added that his intention in speaking publicly was to correct misinformation surrounding the support he received and to appreciate Nigerians who contributed financially after his story gained attention.
He also noted that attempts to maintain contact with Lucky Udu after the interview were unsuccessful, saying his calls were not returned.
