The Delta State Police Command has recorded a significant success in its ongoing fight against kidnapping and violent crime, following a coordinated operation that led to the rescue of two abducted victims and the death of two suspected kidnappers.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of April 9, 2026, was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, alongside operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad in collaboration with the military. Acting on intelligence, the security team tracked the suspects to their hideout along the Obulu-Uku Power Line after reported kidnapping incidents in Ibusa and Enu-Ani Mega City, Ogwashi-Uku.
According to police reports, the suspects opened fire upon sighting the operatives, prompting a gun battle. The security team responded effectively, resulting in the successful rescue of two female victims. Two members of the kidnapping gang sustained fatal injuries during the exchange.
Items recovered at the scene include an AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition, and ₦4.2 million believed to be part of ransom payments collected from victims. The injured suspects were taken to a hospital, where they were later confirmed dead.
Police authorities disclosed that a follow-up operation is ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons.
Commending the operatives and military personnel involved, CP Yemi Oyeniyi praised their courage and professionalism, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency collaboration in combating crime. He also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
