Nigerian actress and disc jockey Dorcas Shola Fapson, popularly known as Ms DSF, has expressed her opposition to people who are financially unstable having children, arguing that parents should consider their ability to provide for their children before starting a family.
The actress shared her views during a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, where she discussed the challenges of raising children without adequate financial resources.
Ms DSF argued that having children without the means to cater for their basic needs could place an unfair burden on the children, their parents and other family members.
According to her, prospective parents should ensure they are financially prepared to handle the responsibilities that come with raising children, including paying school fees, providing food and meeting other essential needs.
The actress also disclosed that she grew up in a humble home and had made a personal decision not to bring children into a similar financial situation.
She expressed concern about people who continue to have children despite struggling to provide for those they already have.
“I think poor people shouldn’t have kids. I don’t think it is fair to the children. It is not fair to the family. It is not fair to you,” she said.
Ms DSF cited the example of a cousin who has five children but has struggled financially since the birth of her first child.
She explained that her cousin frequently requests financial assistance to cover expenses such as school fees and feeding, raising questions about why people would continue to have children without the resources to support them.
“Why do you have five? Every week, she is requesting for financial assistance for school fees, feeding. It is so unfair. Why have kids when you don’t have means to sustain them? It is not fair,” she added.
Her comments have brought attention to the financial responsibilities of parenthood and the importance of planning before having children.
While raising children requires significant financial commitment, her position reflects her personal opinion that intending parents should carefully consider their circumstances and ability to provide for their families before making such decisions.
