The Presidency has dismissed reports that former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, called on Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) nationwide.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the claim as false, accusing opposition figures of manipulating an old audio recording to mislead the public.
In a post on social media, Onanuga said Adelabu made no such nationwide appeal.
“Adebayo Adelabu did not say Nigerians should reject the APC nationwide. The opposition is manipulating an old audio recording and spreading false information. A simple fact check should have cleared the air,” he wrote.
The reaction follows the circulation of a 2022 interview recording in which Adelabu, then the Accord Party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State, made comments that have now resurfaced online.
Adelabu had earlier denied urging Nigerians to turn against the ruling party, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement from his media office, the former minister said his remarks in the 2022 interview were taken out of context and were being used to portray him as an opponent of the APC and the President.
His media office added that he remains committed to the APC, despite disagreements over the party’s governorship nomination process in Oyo State.
