A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has extended the detention of socialite and jeweller Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury, by 30 days.
Justice Akintayo Aluko granted the extension on August 20, 2026, following an application by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), which asked for more time to complete investigations into the socialite.
KC Luxury was arrested by NDLEA operatives on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos as he prepared to board a flight to Paris. His arrest was linked to the seizure of 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine, which the agency described as its largest cocaine recovery involving a courier company.
NDLEA operatives also said they recovered cash and jewellery from him at the time of his arrest, including €7,750, £2,800 and ₦100,000, along with several expensive pieces of jewellery.
Following his continued custody, KC Luxury filed a separate suit before Justice Friday Ogazi at the same court, challenging the NDLEA’s actions. His father, Eric Afolabi, deposed to an affidavit in support of the application, claiming his son had been held since his arrest without being properly informed of the allegations against him or formally charged.
The family wants the court to declare his continued detention unlawful and a breach of his constitutional right to personal liberty, along with other orders concerning his release and the conduct of the case.
Justice Ogazi has ordered the NDLEA to respond to the claims within five days and to produce KC Luxury in court at the next hearing. The judge also directed that the ex parte motion, enrolled order and other relevant court documents be served on the agency within four working days.
The substantive application challenging his detention comes up for hearing on September 9, 2026.
