When the buzz of the official launch of the first pay as you watch TV in Nigeria, TSTV hit the cyberspace, trust me the news went viral to the nooks and cranny of Nigeria. Nigerians in large numbers embraced the new innovation aimed at bringing a lasting solution to the obnoxious extortion by other Pay TV in the country.
Over the years, Nigerians have complained vehemently over high subscription rate, extortion amidst poor quality of service of other pay TV. The idea by TSTV, has kept other rival digital TV owners on their feet if they want to retain the market.
Earlier today, the 19th of October, A Chinese owned digital TV operator, Startimes, with over 10 million subscribers worldwide, announced via its Twitter social media handle of its new module of payment; ‘Pay By Day’. The newly introduced medium now gives its subscribers avenue to pay N60 daily to view over 30 channels. The shocking announcement generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media, who asked some rhetorical questions.
Startimes digital TV is gradually getting the memo. The market is now more competitive as flexible payment plans must be introduced to retain millions of their Nigerian customers. In a swift reaction to this new development by Startimes, CITYSPY through phone conversation spoke to one Startime customer Mr Tope Folounsho, a Lagos state government civil servant, who resides on the Lagos Island.
Tope was asked; What is your reaction about the latest mode of payment introduced by Startimes TV, He said; ”May God bless the person who introduced the TSTV idea. I got the brief online that we can watch Startimes daily with 60 naira. i must confess TSTV came at the right time when the extortion is getting to its crescendo. Trust me, if TSTV is fully launched, I would make sure am part of the first set of people to buy its decoder. Other Pay Tv like; DSTV and Startimes are just extorting us and carting away our hard earned money to their countries with less CSR, our government would not sanction them for poor service and extortion. Pay as you watch, is just perfect for our system in Nigeria. Not having over 100 channels and eventually watch just 5”.
CITYSPY asked further that; if TSTV begins operation, what will you do to your Startimes decoder?, Mr Tope said bluntly; ”I would park it off and throw it inside the bin immediately”.
