Some Super Falcons players have reported cash missing from their rooms at a hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, days before the team’s opening match at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
A video circulating online captures players including Rasheeda Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Osinachi Ohale, Joy Omewa, and Halimatu Ayinde detailing how funds went missing from their purses while they were away from their rooms at the Marriott Hotel.
The amounts stolen reportedly range from $100 to $700, with the players saying there is little chance of recovering the money.
According to the affected players, hotel management showed no surprise when informed, suggesting such incidents are not uncommon at the facility. They said staff instead grew irritated at the complaints and became disrespectful when questioned further.
The players have called for a boycott of the hotel, describing it as an unsafe place for guests.
The Super Falcons are in Morocco for the ongoing WAFCON tournament and are set to open their campaign against Malawi on Tuesday.
