Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face Comoros in the second round of the qualifiers for the women’s football event at the 2028 Olympic Games following the island nation’s astonishing 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan in the opening round.
Comoros delivered one of the most dominant performances of the qualification campaign, thrashing Sudan 17-0 in the first leg before sealing qualification with a further 13-0 victory in the return fixture.
The emphatic results earned the Coelacanths a place in the next round, where they will come up against reigning African champions Nigeria.
Despite Comoros’ impressive goal-scoring form, the Super Falcons are widely regarded as favourites to progress. Nigeria remain the most successful women’s national team in Africa and head into the qualifiers in strong form.
Under the guidance of head coach Justine Madugu, the Falcons recently recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over Senegal in an international friendly at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. The result came after a 2-1 win against the same opponents in an earlier friendly encounter, extending Nigeria’s unbeaten run as preparations continue for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Super Falcons will enter the tournament as defending champions and are aiming to maintain their dominance on the continent.
The second-round Olympic qualifying matches are scheduled to take place between October 5 and October 13, 2026.
Only two African teams will ultimately secure qualification for the women’s football competition at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.
