President Bola Tinubu has appointed Kunle Elebute as Chairperson of the Governing Board of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN).
The appointment was announced Thursday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, who described it as part of the Federal Government’s drive to strengthen corporate governance, boost investor confidence, and deepen transparency within Nigeria’s financial reporting ecosystem.
Elebute is a chartered accountant and financial management consultant with over four decades of experience across Nigeria, West Africa, and international markets. He previously served as Senior Partner and Chief Executive of KPMG Nigeria, Chairman of KPMG West Africa, and Chairman of KPMG Africa, and sat on the firm’s regional and global boards, including its Global Board Audit Committee.
His areas of expertise span audit, financial advisory, risk consulting, corporate governance, and strategic transformation. He has advised major institutions across financial services, infrastructure, healthcare, energy, and the public sector, and contributed to national policy through several government committees, including those focused on banking consolidation and corporate governance reforms.
The FRCN is responsible for setting and enforcing standards on financial reporting, auditing, actuarial practice, valuation, and corporate governance in Nigeria — functions seen as central to market integrity and investor protection.
Elebute’s appointment comes as the Council presses ahead with institutional priorities, including engagements under the UK-Nigeria Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership and efforts to align Nigeria’s corporate reporting framework with global standards.
The Federal Government said it expects his experience and governance expertise to strengthen the Council’s mandate and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda’s goal of building a more transparent and investment-friendly economy.
