President Bola Tinubu has nominated six executive directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), as part of moves to reconstitute the agency’s board and strengthen its regulatory oversight.
In a letter to the Senate, the President listed three returning executive directors and three new nominees. He asked the lawmakers to confirm them for a five-year tenure.
The returning nominees are Abiodun Adeniji (Finance and Accounts); Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha (Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure); and Dr Mustapha Lamorde (Health, Safety, Environment and Community).
The new nominees are Mobolaji Tajudeen Musa (Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure); Ogechukwu Modie (Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning); and Said Abutalib (Corporate Services and Administration).
Tinubu urged the Senate to speed up consideration of the nominations to ensure institutional continuity and enhance the Authority’s capacity to carry out its regulatory duties.
The President also approved the appointment of Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the Board/Authority and Legal Adviser of the NMDPRA. Her appointment is subject to completion of the statutory processes under Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
The appointments come months after Tinubu named Engr. Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the agency’s chief executive in April.
The NMDPRA regulates Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum operations, including gas processing, transportation, storage, distribution and petroleum product supply.
