Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Kayode Are, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu could embark on an official trip to Washington before his tenure as envoy comes to an end.
Are made the disclosure while featuring on Channels Television’s ‘Inside Sources’, a programme hosted by Laolu Akande.
According to the envoy, the timing of any presidential visit would depend on Tinubu’s schedule and broader itinerary considerations. He also did not rule out the possibility of a face-to-face meeting between Tinubu and US President Donald Trump.
Are noted that strong engagement already exists between both countries at various levels, even though the two leaders have yet to meet in person.
“The relationship between the two, I’m sure we will be able to get that done one way or the other, and of course the itinerary of a President determines where he goes and where he can’t go,” he said.
He added that Nigeria and the US currently maintain “a good level of contact and engagement, top to bottom,” despite the absence of a physical meeting between both presidents.
Are expressed hope that a presidential visit would materialise during his time as ambassador, describing it as something that would bring him “the greatest joy” and please many Nigerians, though he stressed that this remains subject to scheduling contingencies.
