Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have rescued seven travellers who were kidnapped along the Riyom highway in Plateau State.
Sources within the operation said the rescue followed a swift response to a distress call received around 9:30 p.m. on Monday near Sopp village in Riyom Local Government Area.
According to the sources, troops deployed under Sector 6 arrived at the scene and found a blue Opel Vectra abandoned in the middle of the road with no occupants. This triggered an immediate search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding bush.
The troops made contact with the kidnappers during the operation, forcing them to flee under sustained military pressure and abandon their captives.
The rescued victims were identified as ASP Babagida Ishaku, Auwulu Haruna, Dung Jerry Dang, Anas Idris, Hussaini Mohammed, Idris Abdullahi, and Mrs Kangyang Sunday.
The victims told troops they had boarded the vehicle in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, en route to Jos, when gunmen intercepted and abducted them.
All seven were rescued unharmed. Efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace say they will continue routine patrols across the Joint Operations Area to protect commuters, schools, worship centres, and other critical infrastructure as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security in Plateau State.
