The Nigerian Army has announced the surrender of two senior terrorist commanders to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State, describing the development as another significant success in its ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North-East.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Acting Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed that the terrorists surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, 2026.
According to him, the two commanders, identified within the terrorist leadership structure as “Munzirs,” arrived in Maiduguri at about 7:30 p.m. on July 5 and are currently in military custody.
Captain Goni said the suspects are undergoing comprehensive profiling, debriefing and intelligence analysis to assist ongoing military operations.
He explained that preliminary investigations indicate that the surrendered commanders occupied influential positions within the terrorist hierarchy and possess extensive knowledge of the group’s operational activities, command structure and logistics network.
The Army noted that intelligence gathered from the initial debriefing has already provided valuable information on the terrorists’ operational tactics, supply channels and support systems. According to the military, the intelligence is expected to strengthen ongoing operations aimed at locating, disrupting and dismantling the remaining terrorist hideouts across the North-East.
The military described the surrender as a major setback for the terrorist group, attributing it to sustained offensive operations carried out by Operation HADIN KAI in collaboration with security partners.
Captain Goni stated that continuous land and air offensives, backed by improved intelligence gathering, have significantly restricted the movement of terrorist fighters, weakened their combat capabilities and disrupted their command and control structures.
He added that the sustained military pressure has made it increasingly difficult for terrorist leaders and fighters to continue their operations, forcing many to abandon the insurgency and surrender to government forces.
The Army further said the latest surrender reflects the growing collapse of the terrorist organisation and demonstrates the cumulative impact of ongoing military operations across the North-East theatre.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the offensive until all terrorist elements are either eliminated or compelled to surrender.
The military also pledged to continue exploiting actionable intelligence, intensify operations and strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders to restore lasting peace, security and stability across the North-East.
